About me
Abtin Sadati, artistically known as Gaetha, is an Amsterdam based sound artist active in the Utrecht experimental music scene, embracing self-expression through the art of sound. His practice resides within the intersection of presence, absence, and closeness, questioning how sound approaches, how it distances itself, and how absence becomes felt through presence. Rooted in Iran, his methodology toward listening and the perception of music contains an Eastern aspect, put into relation to the contemporary sound practices. He neither solves nor dramatises experience but presents it as it happens. He reveals through his work the structures through which experience takes form. In his view, his work is a process of revealing emotions he has lived through. By expressing them through sound, he allows them to be just the way they are: unfiltered and uncensored.
He puts out conceptual ambient and experimental electronic albums through labels like Low Versions and Élan Vital Recordings, among others. This incorporates a lot of field recordings and sound design into his process: capturing, producing, and then manipulating the sounds to create minimal textures and sustained tones via synthesis techniques. Such works express emotions not fully describable with words, combined in a way that also juxtaposes digital precision with raw, nonlinear essence from within himself.
Abtin mixes and masters ambient and electronic albums with an experimental yet musical approach. He treated mixing as an extension of sound design and shaped and molded the music to bring forth its depth and character.
His live performances range from noise improvisations and immersive ambient audiovisual sets to experimental electronic composition, exploring different modes of sonic storytelling.
Beyond music and performance, he examines and explores sonic interaction design, developing sound art installations that often combine self-made visuals and interactive elements through programming or incorporate spatial audio for immersive experiences. He bridges the gap between music and technology by integrating Ableton, TouchDesigner, FMOD, Max, Arduino, sensors, sound objects, and audio spatialization.
